English meat pie “pie” cannot be called a tongue, although the word pie is translated exactly that way. This pie does not look like pie at all, there are a lot of vegetables in the filling, but the main ingredient is meat.
It is curious that even though the recipe is English, the ingredients in it are rather Mediterranean: olive oil, parsnip, celery. But then all the additives, the main component, of course, meat is beef. The dough for the share can be layered, thinly rolled. Bake a share in portioned molds.
To prepare an English meat share you will need:
- cilantro – 1 bunch
- parsley – 1 bunch
- olive oil – 3-4 tablespoons
- carrots – 2 pcs.
- celery – 4 tbsp.
- salt pepper
- parsnip – 1 root
- puff yeast dough – 500 gr
- egg – 1 pc.
- peeled tomatoes in their own juice – 400 gr
- onions – 1 onion
- beef – 800 gr
At the first stage, we will have to fully and completely reproduce the traditional stewed beef in English. We cut the meat into small cubes and fry it in olive oil until a crust appears, then add chopped onion and after 3-4 minutes chopped carrots, celery and parsnip. We continue to fry the meat with vegetables for at least five minutes, but for now we open a jar of tomatoes in our own juice.
Five minutes have elapsed – add the contents of the jar to the pan along with the juice, cover and simmer for a couple of hours on low heat. Do not forget to periodically stir the contents of the pan, and also add greens, salt and pepper 5-7 minutes before cooking.
Now it remains to choose the right portion forms – according to the classic British ideas about the share, they should be quite high: from 5 to 10 centimeters.

We spread the finished meat, cover with puff pastry, laying it on the surface of the filling and the edge of the mold, previously greased with a beaten egg. You can submit a share in the “basket” – then you need to line the dough with the inner surface of the form. On top of the share, it is also necessary to lubricate and put the baking dish in the oven at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
